Eric Biddle '82

An accomplished football and track and field athlete, he left his mark on both programs at Juniata. He led the football team in receiving during his junior and senior seasons with 22 catches for 377 yards in 1980 and 32 receptions for 645 yards in 1981. He was tabbed as the most valuable player in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) at the conclusion of his final season at Juniata, making him one of only nine players who wore the blue and gold to earn the gridiron honor. In addition, he was named the recipient of Juniata's Dr. J. Harold Engle '23 Award as most valuable back in 1981. At the time of his induction, he had the seventh-highest single-game receiving yardage total in Juniata annals (197 yards vs. Lycoming in 1981). On the track and field scene, he won the MAC triple jump title in both 1981 and 1982 and still holds the College Hill record in the event with a leap of 48-6. He also qualified for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championship in his senior season.

A two-way lineman and kicker for the football squad, he was also an outstanding golfer on the great Juniata teams in the mid 1950s. He earned four varsity letters in each sport and was an inspirational leader to both programs. He was a three-year starter for the first undefeated football teams on College Hill and the program amassed an impressive 29-2-1 record during his collegiate tenure. He played all 60 minutes in the 1956 Tangerine Bowl, an outing that Juniata and Missouri Valley tied, 6-6. The tight end on offense and defensive end also was the club's kicker for extra points and kickoffs. On the golf links, the 1952 Moon Township High School graduate was a member of two teams that captured the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) championship. He consistently shot in the low 70s and was the individual medalist at the 1956 conference outing. Currently retired, he was the club golf champion for many years at Montour Heights Country Club in Pittsburgh.

One of the most outstanding defensive backs in the history of Juniata College, the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) and the NCAA Division III ranks, he was a starter at free safety for four seasons (1984-87). He was a team captain in 1987 and that same year earned Associated Press Little All-America and Kodak All-America College Division honors. He still holds the NCAA all-division record for interceptions in a season (15), and the Division III record of 1.5 interceptions per game, marks that he established in 1987. He was tabbed as an MAC first-team all-star in 1986 and 1987 and was selected as the conference most valuable player as a senior. In addition, he was the recipient of Juniata's Dr. J. Harold Engle '23 most valuable back award in 1987. At the time of his induction, he was the leader in career interceptions on College Hill (26) and paced the unit in picks in 1984 (4), 1986 (5) and 1987 (15). The Bedford High School graduate was named the McDonald's/Juniata College Athlete of the Month and MAC Player of the Week numerous times. His football talents earned him a try out with the New England Patriots following his senior season.

An administrator at Juniata College from 1946 until 1966, he was the public relations director on College Hill during football's "Glory Years." He covered Juniata athletics during that time, including the football team's trip to the Tangerine Bowl at the end of the 1955 season, and wrote the J-Club Newsletter. He started work on the original Juniata College Sports Hall of Fame project in the late 1950s and early 1960s. In addition, he was an announcer on WHUN-AM radio for Juniata football games and served as the public address announcer for Juniata baseball teams. To go along with his public relations duties at the College, he worked as a stringer for the Associated Press and also wrote stories for the Huntingdon Daily News and Juniata Hall of Fame charter member Mailand McIlroy, who was the sports editor at the time. He also served as the registrar at Juniata for eight years, as the faculty secretary, and established and taught the first journalism course at Juniata. The 1936 graduate of Sewickley High School left his position in 1966 to become a development officer at Penn State University, a position he held until 1984.

A 1935 graduate of Juniata College, he was an outstanding pitcher on College Hill from 1930 through 1933. He served as a team captain on the 1933 squad. The four-year letter winner suffered just one mound loss during his entire collegiate stay, and over his four seasons with the team the Juniata diamond unit won three league championships and tied for another title the remaining year. Juniata was 37-7 overall during his time with the program. A local product, he was inducted into the Huntingdon County Sports Hall of Fame on June 19, 1999. He once pitched in an exhibition game against the barnstorming Homestead Grays of the Negro League and lost a 5-3 mound duel with future Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Satchell Paige. He was a four-year pitcher and third baseman for McConnellsburg High School, during which he lost only four games. After graduating from College Hill, he began a high school teaching and coaching career (football, boys and girls basketball, track and soccer) that covered 41 years and included stops at Saltillo and Southern Huntingdon high schools.

An accomplished athlete on the scholastic and collegiate scene, he was a track and field and basketball standout on College Hill. After finishing as high as fourth place in the PIAA track and field championship in the intermediate hurdles and taking 14th in the PIAA golf championship during his career at Somerset High School, he earned six varsity letters while at Juniata. A three-year letter winner and a captain on the track and field squad, he earned the J. Foster Gehrett '16 Award (presented to the most valuable performer on the track and field team) in 1976, 1978, and 1979. He won the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) 400-meter hurdle title in 1978 and 1979 and posted a fifth-place showing in the same event at the NCAA Division III championship in 1978 to earn all-American honors. He set the 400-meter intermediate hurdle school record (a mark of 53.59 seconds that still stands) while winning the 1979 MAC crown. He was a captain on the basketball court and played alongside the Twistin' Twins, Roger Galo and Bob Musser. He posted 265 points, 154 assists, and 151 rebounds in 72 career games. He capped his collegiate tenure by earning Juniata's prestigious John E. Blood Memorial Award as the graduating senior student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA.

Volleyball

A dominant player on the volleyball court for Juniata during the late 1980s, she earned four varsity letters as an outside hitter for coach Larry Bock. She was a three-time Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) all-star and was selected as an all-American two times during her career, including a spot on the prestigious ASICS/Tiger all-American squad (a team that is made up of just six athletes each year) following her senior season. She was named the most valuable player of the Juniata team in 1988 and that same year was selected to the all-tournament squad at the NCAA Division III championship. As a junior, the Spring Grove High School product became the first player in school history to register 500 or more kills in a season with 512. She graduated as the program's career leader in kills (1,707), total attacks (3,930) and digs (1,136), and at the time of her induction, was third in kills, third in total attacks, and fourth in digs on the Juniata all-time charts. With her on the squad, the College Hill team won four straight MAC and regional crowns, and recorded an overall record of 173-30 including a school standard 53 victories in 1987. Juniata advanced to the NCAA semifinals and finals during all four of her seasons.

Volleyball

A setter/hitter for the Juniata College women's volleyball team, she was a standout performer during the program's early years as a varsity sport. The two-year team captain (1981 and 1982) earned Middle Atlantic Conference honors in 1980, 1981, and 1982 and helped lead the College Hill squad to its first-ever conference championship in 1981. She was an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III First-Team All-American in 1982 when she set a Juniata record with 145 service aces, a record that still stood at the time of her induction into the Hall of Fame. She also led the unit in digs in 1982 and in both aces and assists in 1981. Her 1982 service ace total was still the sixth-best single-season effort on the small college scene through the 1998 season. To go along with her all-American laurels in 1982, the Spring Grove High School graduate was tabbed as the team's most valuable player and as a member of the NCAA Division III all-tournament team. Juniata recorded a 137-27 mark during her four years and appeared in the NCAA Division III playoffs for the first time in 1981.

A four-year starter on the football field, he received the program's Dr. J Harold Engle '23 Award (presented to the team's most valuable back) in 1967 and 1968. As a sophomore, the quarterback was a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) honorable mention selection. After competing as a safety and quarterback in his junior campaign, he was an Associated Press (AP) Little All-American honorable-mention pick, was named Eastern College Athletic Association (ECAC) all-East, all-state second team, all-conference first team, and was the most valuable player of the MAC Northern Division. He led Juniata to the MAC Northern Division crown in 1967. Following his senior season, he was an AP Little All-American honorable mention pick and was the conference's most valuable player. He led Juniata in passing and total offense over four consecutive seasons and topped the squad in scoring in 1966 and 1968. At the time of his induction, he was Juniata's and the MAC's all-time leader in pass efficiency rating (140.6) and still ranked third on College Hill in touchdown passes (50), completions (327), and yards passing (4,249). Following graduation, the Athens High School product went on to play in the Canadian Football League for Winnipeg and Saskatchewan.

A four-time Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) pole vault champion, he left his mark on the Juniata College track and field program in the early 1970s. As a freshman, he cleared 13-6 to win the conference crown, while in 1972 he got over 13-9 to earn his second straight title. The streak continued his junior season when he set a school record that still stood at the time of his induction with an effort of 14-8 3/4 to take the conference's gold medal. In 1974, he posted a leap of 14-3 to earn in the MAC title to become the only Juniata athlete to accomplish placing first in a conference championship event for four consecutive seasons. He established the MAC indoor pole vault standard in the winter of his senior season with a 13-7 effort (a record that has since been broken). His 1973 vault still ranked fifth in MAC history through the 1999 campaign. In addition to all of his accomplishments on College Hill, he went on to train with future Olympians Bruce Jenner and Brian Oldfield during his post-Juniata athletic career.
